OUR MOUNTAIN WITH WINTER SNOWS

As the snow at the roadside turned dirty with cinders and the rocks on the southern exposures of the mountains began to show, I was thinking of spring. But this morning we wakened to 6 more inches of snow, so I decided to add some mountain snow pictures to my blog.

WINTER '08 IN CRESTED BUTTE, COLORADO

The face of winter - a hard time for the wildlife

The snow piled up, burying the homes and stores

The sidewalks and streets of town were hard to keep clear.

The snows build up on our deck in December and January,

We had to shovel out of our door,

And dig out our car.

YELLOW-BELLIED MARMOTS

These babies, who live in Gothic, CO, are being watched out for by their mother below.

This marmot lived near the top of Crested Butte Mountain at 11,000+ feet.

FOX IN SUMMER

We feed this fox when winter snows are deep. In the summer she helps keep our yard free of Voles and mice. She came to our deck to be sure we saw she was doing her job.

COLORADO ERMINE AND FOX

This is the Ermine who lived by our home. We haven't seen him for awhile and hope that the local foxes did not get him.
