BIKING RISCONE TO CHIUSA, DAY 7

After a good night's sleep in our Park Hotel Schoenblick lovely room we awaken to this pleasant view from our window.

After a nice breakfast we met our guides, Claudio and Elana to see which comedy act then had for us in our morning lecture and instructions.

We rode our bikes a pleasant 23 kilometers down out of town and through the countryside following the Isarco River past this castle in ruins, Fortezza Rio Pusteria. There some of us met the bus for transportation to the Novacella Abbey.

Arriving at the parking lot we crossed this covered bridge into a different world.

The Abby, founded in 1142 by the Bishop of Bressanone, is a huge complex on many Gothic style buildings. The grounds are filled with flowers, green grass, and ivy covered walls; the hillside with fruit trees and vineyards.

The Church is magnificent decorated in Bavarian decor in white and pastel colors.

From the Abbey we cycled to the nearby Medieval town of Bressanone with one thought in mind, besides lunch that is - the famous Italian Gelato.

Bressanone, with its central clock tower and colorful shops and outdoor restaurants was a nice place for a quick lunch.

Before re-boarding the van we had a few minutes to enjoy the river as it flowed by the town.

On the way to our next hotel in Merano we had time for a short stop in Chiusa with its cobblestone streets and paths.
